Abstract

Physical fitness is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. The intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong. The purpose of this study was to compare and construct norms for cardio respiratory endurance among the adolescent boys of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh regions of Jammu and Kashmir State. To achieve this purpose 3600 adolescent boys of age group 13 to 15 years from different districts of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh regions were selected randomly. Cardio respiratory endurance was selected as criterion variable and was measured by 9 min run/walk test. The collected data was analyzed by using Analysis of Variance and if obtained ‘F’ ratio was found to be significant; Sheffe’s post hoc test was applied to know the paired mean difference. The level of significance was fixed at 0.05. The results show that adolescent boys from Jammu region were better in cardio respiratory endurance compared with adolescent boys of Ladakh and Kashmir regions. To construct norms, Hull scale value of respected classes was continuously added and subtracted from the respective means for determining the values from zero to hundred in the scale. The scores were further classified into five grades i.e. excellent, good, average, poor and very poor. Hence it was concluded that age, geographical area, growth, social behaviour, food habits and level of physical activity in curriculum and social life may influence the cardio respiratory endurance of adolescent boys of Jammu and Kashmir state.
