In ancient times there were many illegal practices in Hindu society. Which continued even during the British period. The practice of milking female infants, the practice of sati or the practice of burning the widow at the time of her husband's death, child marriage and slavery were considered a danger in society. All these practices were carried out with the approval of the religious authorities. Despite the opposition of the Hindu orthodox people, the British government took strict measures to enact and control appropriate laws to curb such malpractices and to impose severe punishments and legal provisions against them.
